BOSTON, Massachusetts, March 18, 2010 — AsisChem, Inc., a custom chemical synthesis and medicinal chemistry services provider, announced today that Dr. Joel Berniac, chief executive officer and co-founder of Akrivis Technologies LLC, has joined its Board of Directors. As an independent board member, he brings ten years of experience and expertise in drug discovery and business development from the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Berniac is an expert in medicinal chemistry, and is a key advisor to AsisChem's scientific management team.

AsisChem has enjoyed double digit growth in 2009 despite the economic downturn and sharp cutbacks in industry research spending. "In the past few years, pharmaceutical companies have shifted to favor collaborations with chemistry providers with strong medicinal chemistry expertise and low-cost synthesis capabilities," said Grigoriy Rublev, AsisChem's chief executive officer. Dr. Berniac has held business development and scientific roles at Paratek Pharmaceuticals and Bayer Pharmaceuticals. He earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and a High-Tech MBA from Northeastern University in Boston. He is an industry veteran with many publications and granted patents. With his expertise in drug discovery and medicinal chemistry, Dr. Berniac brings a wealth of experience to AsisChem's board.
